“Oh that men would PRAISE the Lord for his goodness,
and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”
Psa.107:8
“When they began to SING and PRAISE,
the Lord set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir,
who had come against Judah, so that they were routed.”
2Chron.10:19
God delights in our praise and thanksgiving – He loves a grateful heart.
And here is one of the innermost secrets of Christian living and walking with Christ..
An attitude of praise and gratitude, from a humble heart : broken – in love – for Him.
What joy filled Christ’s heart – when the one leper returned to give thanks for healing..
But His felicity and delight was tinged – with such a depth of disappointment…
Were there not TEN lepers healed
where are the other NINE… ? Luke.17:11ff
For the ONE whose grateful thanks dropped like fresh dew on the ears of Jesus..
– there are many more who take the free gift, that cost God so much -
– and simply, walk away.
With what jealousy I must guard this attitude of grateful thanks and praise;
I must day-by-day safeguard against my failure to rehearse and practice thanksgiving.
Why – why is it so good to praise the Lord and to sing praises unto our God.
The Psalmist motivates us to.. come and sing…
Come – come let us sing unto the LORD…
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.” Psalm.95..
However deep the shadows – however dark the path – we have cause to praise
Wherever the dark disappointments that mar your vision and break your heart…
– there is cause to praise Him and a reason to approach Him too.
But HOW? You scream at me – how can I praise God in the midst of despair…
How can I be thankful for my loss, my pain, my distress, my loneliness, my illness ….. How?
God knows… I don’t – but this I do know….
He takes every pain and every sorrow – every hurt and every disappointment …
– and He works it and molds to your greater testimony and to His own glory.
for ALL things work together for good
to those that love Him – to the called… Rom.8:28
At one time when for nine months by voice was shattered in grief –
– it was singing praises to God that renewed and refreshed my dying soul.
He did it for me then…. He can do it for me today…
And He can do it for you too – Beloved One
Today when pain and anguish clasp their icy fingers around my throat…
I know it is praise and thanksgiving that can loose their vice-like grip..
– but it is no good thinking about it,
– it needs action…
- mine and God’s.
Do you remember how Jehoshaphat
overcame the physical enemies of his day?
We read that as the people :-
began to SING and PRAISE the Lord
the enemy was routed”
The enemies we face are no less real that the people of Ammon, Moab, Mount Seir.
Ours are in the realm of the spiritual as theirs were in the realms of the physical.
They fought the enemies that would rout and destroy them….
We fight similar enemies that would rout and destroy us….
enemies the prince of this world has sent to overcome us,
enemies that cause confusion, despair, distrust disappointment,
enemies of discord, disillusionment and disharmony.
Don’t nurse your wounds when others, through ignorance or stupidity, cause you pain.,- but remember the Christian’s secret of a successful and profitable spiritual life..
It is ALL things give thanks and praise – so come… PRAISE the Lord with me –
Come praise the Lord with me – Come praise the Lord
Worthy is He to be praised and adored
Let us together His glories proclaim,
Joining our voices to honour His name
Cruel was the cross he died,
When He was crucified,
Pardon He did provide :
Pardon He did provide
,Though in a grave he lay
Death could not hold its prey
He tore the bars away – He tore the bars away
Though in His body He carries the scars…
HE IS ALIVE – we can shout to the stars – shout to the stars
One day He’s coming from heaven’s bright throne
Coming His Kingdom to claimALL eyes shall as His Own
Coming in glory with banners unfurled..
ALL eye shall see HIM – He’ll rule the world
Jesus will RULE…. The world
