“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”-Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
What a blessed comfort this verse has been to multitudes of believers in Christ, down through the ages, who have rested on these words of the Psalmist. What refreshment these simple words have bestowed on many little lambs, who have listened to the voice of their Good Shepherd – that Great Shepherd of the sheep, Who opens His arms to widely embrace all who will trust Him in His name. But in context we see another component to these words of reassurance – a plan to glorify His name and exult His person among the nations of the world – who rage against the God of heaven and His annointed King. It’s of great encouragement both to His people Israel and all His chosen ones, of all ages, that men who follow their own atheistic ‘will’ and construct their own anti-God plans, will finally be brought to nothing – for God alone will be exulted among the heathen and His purposes alone will come to fruition. Though God’s people, Israel are soon to face the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, His promise to them will never fail – for the time is fast approaching when they look on Him Whom they have pierced and recognise their messiah and king. Though life for many church-age believers, is also being pounded on many sides, we have God’s own assurance that the sheep of His flock are secure in His hands. Truly let us be still and rest on the Rock of our salvation.
My Prayer
Father, we praise You that Your word stands fast for ever and ever – and that Your precious promises encourage us to rest in Your love and drink deeply from the Rock of our salvation. Protect Your people Israel against the increasing roar of the nations and we pray for Your soon return, when Your name be exulted throughout all the earth – in the name of Jesus we pray. AMEN
